It promotes the customs of the Mauro people, who have preserved ancient traditions and customs.
The event takes place in Piano San Mauro, featuring the production and tasting of cheese products: "A Quagliata, " "A Tuma, " "A Ricotta, " and "U Cascavaddru, " along with tastings of typical local products and a performance of traditional Sicilian music.
San Mauro Castelverde is located in a mountainous coastal area, 1, 050 meters above sea level, a characteristic that makes San Mauro Castelverde the only Italian municipality with a municipal seat located at over 1, 000 meters above sea level and with access to the sea. The municipality, from which the Aeolian Islands and the entire Madonie mountain range are visible, is part of the Madonie National Park. Its territory slopes down through woods, olive groves, and vineyards toward the sea. According to tradition, the name San Mauro originates from the gift of a relic of the saint to the inhabitants by some Benedictine monks. The name Castelverde was added only in 1863 and derives from the name of a nearby castle. Numerous churches and monuments are scattered throughout the countryside, such as the Church of Porto Salvo and the mysterious Tomb of Capumastru.
