Cerda Artichoke Festival
The Cerda Artichoke Festival was founded in the 1970s to promote the local purple artichoke, the heart of the town's agricultural economy.

The first structured cultivation dates back to the early decades of the 20th century, when some local farmers began selecting particularly hardy and productive varieties. Over time, the Cerda purple artichoke became popular, prized for its tenderness, delicate flavor, and reduced thorns.

After World War II, artichoke cultivation became one of the town's main economic resources. Entire families lived from working in the fields, and Cerda began to be recognized as one of Sicily's most important centers for this vegetable.

In the 1980s, the idea of promoting the product with a dedicated festival was born: thus the Cerda Artichoke Festival took shape, now a symbolic event for the area.

Today it represents not only a culinary celebration, but a symbol of identity and pride for the entire Cerda community.

The message: promote Sicilian agricultural excellence, local culture, and sustainable food and wine tourism.
